As a full service agency we seem to talk a lot about social media marketing. That's because we've found through experience, research and extensive analysis of major brands that the value of social media was ambiguous. Numerous large brands have made public statements of their difficulties with social media. Then it dawned on us that the problem isn't social media, the problem is the perception of social media. Social media is typically viewed as a channel, much as we view email, SEM, display, and affiliate as separate channels. Social doesn't really work that way. Yes, it is possible to execute social media campaigns, but that's not where large brands will ever find the greatest value.
