Sones de Mexico Ensemble is a Chicago-based sextet that specializes in performing, recording and teaching Mexican folk music including styles such as son jarocho, huapango, gusto and chilenas. The group was founded in 1994 and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1997. The company has released five albums and has received recognition from the industry including a Latin Grammy Nomination in 2007 and a Grammy Nomination in 2008. Highlight performances have included Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Symphony Center, Ravinia, Getty Villa Museum. Highlight media appearances have include A Prairie Home Companion, Morning Edition, The World, On Point, and Weekend Edition. The mission of Sones de México Ensemble is to promote greater appreciation of Mexican folk and traditional music and culture through innovative performance, education, and dissemination.
