The mission of Sonoma County Children's Village is to provide nurturing, stable, family homes in a multi-generational, enriched environment for children and their siblings in foster care. The centerpiece of our mission is a unique model of foster care that keeps siblings together. Since 2006, the Village has served 64 children, including 20 groups of siblings - 47 brothers and sisters who stayed together, rather than being separated. The Village provides a holistic, child-centered home for children in foster care. We see every child as an individual - deserving of dignity and yearning to connect with family. Every child needs a chance to enjoy childhood. One older sibling says that the stability she and her siblings have at the Village allows her to be a sister, not a parent, saying "this is the first time I ever felt normal...doing something just for me!" Now she loves school and is exceeding her grade level with the mentoring and tutoring we provide. We are proud to have expanded our model to be the first Family Reunification Center in California. We offer services to our children's biological, foster, or adoptive family members, helping them improve parenting skills. The next step? The Bridge Home, a day-use apartment where families will receive counseling and training together. In the past three years, Sonoma County Children's Village has successfully reunited 26 children with their families.
