Civic & Social Organization - Cartagena, Bolívar, Colombia
The South-South Council for Sustainable Development - SSCC is a global NGO which was created by a group of like-minded individuals and institutions as a facilitator and catalyst to promote south-south dialogue and strengthen the world peace. It was set up in Colombia which is currently undergoing an exciting stage of its development after more than five decades of civil conflict in which over seven million persons have been displaced and 250,000 killed. Peace Accord with the main guerilla group, FARC, was signed in November 2016 although the efforts are still ongoing to include in another peace agreement the second, smaller, guerilla group, ELN.There has been an increasing awareness recently that whilst the developed countries of the northern hemisphere have played an important role in promoting sustainable development, it is the countries in the gambit of south-south cooperation which share similar economic, social and cultural conditions where good practices can be replicated with greater ease and efficiency.
