Southampton Cultural Development Trust (Culture Southampton) is an independent charity whose objective is to support and enable development of the Culture in Southampton. Culture Southampton uses arts and culture as key drivers to create a shift in the city, developing its potential as a cultural hub for economic and social benefits and as one of the tools to engage socially excluded communities; to raise aspirations both for the city and individuals within it; and to draw people to the city as visitors, students, investors, employees and residents.The Trust is governed by a board of unpaid volunteer Trustees drawn from the business, education and arts communities, who are advocates for the arts and culture in the city.The Trust is entirely separate from, but works closely with, Southampton City Council. There is one Council representative on the Board of the Trust. The Trust works closely with the University of Southampton, Southampton Solent University, Southampton Connect and other key organisations across education, business and of course arts and heritage.
