The SPCA of Solano County is a 501c3 adoption guarantee animal shelter. The animals that reside at the SPCASC are not on a time limit for their stay with us. We do not euthanize for time or space. The SPCA was founded in 1974 by a dedicated group of animal lovers in Solano County concerned with the welfare of companion animals. Incorporated in 1980 and located on Peabody Rd in Vacaville since 1984. The Board of Directors that governs the organization is a group of business owners that enable the SPCA to move into the next phase of growth. With their guidance the SPCA was able to add a high volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic that Solano County desperately needed. The spay/neuter clinic will perform between 8,000-10,000 surgeries per year. Having a high volume clinic is the only way to reduce the intake rates to municipal shelters. The project was funded with a clinic grant from PetSmart Charities. The SPCA is not funded by any agency and operates on adoption fees and relies heavily on public donations. The SPCA adopts approximately 700 dogs, cats, and other companion animals annually. In addition to owner surrendered animals and stray intake, the SPCA pulls animals each month from shelters. The SPCA has been involved in several large rescue efforts, taking in animals from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. The dogs were treated and adopted. In 2010 the SPCA collaborated with Humane Animal Services in the confiscation of puppies from a local puppy mill. Over 100 small breed puppies held as evidence for the investigation and criminal trial were housed and treated before being released for adoption. In 2011 the SPCA created a retail space to supplement the shelter income with proceeds from sales going directly to support the animals. Adopters and the public can purchase items for their new pets and support the shelter animals.. The store also has a growing customer base for pet food, frontline, and other supplies at reasonable prices.
