The UNICAMP SPE Student Chapter was founded in 1989 and is a pioneer in Brazil as the official student organization of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Student Chapters are formed by groups of students following a petroleum engineering or related curriculum at a college or university. The major aim of the Student Chapters is to develop a variety of activities in order to establish an effective contact among the academic staff and petroleum companies, as well as to disseminate the research works and thesis on Petroleum Science and Engineering of DEP (Petroleum Engineering Department) graduate students, professors and SPE members. SPE currently has more than 170 student chapters in countries around the world. Each student chapter is affiliated to an SPE section allowing students to interact with practicing professionals and benefit from technology discussions at section meetings. The UNICAMP SPE Student Chapter is located in Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is associated to the Petroleum Engineering Department (DEP) of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FEM) at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP).
