Since 1999 the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) has been responsible for managing billions of euros of EU funding into Northern Ireland, the Border Region of Ireland and Western Scotland. The funding is provided under two distinct European Regional Development funded programmes called PEACE and INTERREG.The support provided under the PEACE Programme is designed to reinforce progress towards a more peaceful and stable society and promote reconciliation across all communities. The support provided under the INTERREG Programme is designed to promote cross-border co-operation for a more prosperous and sustainable region. The SEUPB is currently preparing for the launch of the new PEACE IV and INTERREG VA Programmes for 2014-2020, which combined will bring in €469m of EU investment into the region. The themes of the new PEACE IV Programme include Shared Education; Children and Young People; Shared Spaces and Building Positive Relations at a Local Level.The themes of the new INTERREG VA Programme include Research and Innovation; the Environment; Health and Sustainable Transport.
