Speir Hunter has developed a new non-contact method of inspecting pipeline integrity called Stress concentration Tomography (SCT). Currently we report the geometric centre of stress concentration zones (caused by corrosion, defects, earth movement) using an integrated survey grade GNSS system, which provides a graphic representation of the stress profile of the pipeline relative to hoop stress and specified minimum yield strength - which is also tabulated as a percentage of SMYS. This type of technology is starting to known as Large Stand-Off Magnetometry.
