Spirited is an Australian based ethical clothing company. The collection is sewn by women coming out of poverty and human trafficking in Asia. Currently we are working in India and The Philippines to train and provide employment for these women, enabling them to truly walk the path of freedom. Our aim is to use our profits to set more women free out of sexual slavery and poverty. In the future we want to expand the business to more countries, to help more people, activating more communities.INDIA:We have set up 2 sewing centres in India. Our main centre is in Peddapuram, Andhra Pradesh, where many women are sold to pimps by family members, husbands or friends to work in one of the largest red-light areas in India. Our sewing centre in Peddapuram has been specifically set up to train women how to sew and provide employment to those who have come out of sexual slavery in the red light area, as many of them lack training and education.Our centre in Tenali has been set up to work with women from the poorer communities. These women are able to earn a living wage enabling them to provide an income for their families.THE PHILIPPINES:In the Philippines we have a sewing centre in Lapu-Lapu city, Cebu, where we are working with women from the poorer communities. We will be training women to sew from the local dumpsite area in Lapu-Lapu city, where many families survive on less than $3 a day. Our hope is that through this project it will transform the lives of these women, their families and their communities by providing employment, training and education.These women get paid a living wage and money is also put into their communities to help others get an education and increase their standard of living, breaking the cycle of poverty for the generations to come. So far we have been able to help provide funding for the building of a feeding centre and church in the community for the weekly feeding program for children living on the dumpsite.
