Venice has been known as "La Serenissima", This is a city for the world, everyone knows about it, and those who have visited understand its magic. The city of Venice and its residents have experienced an increase of tourism over the past 30 years. Cruise ships wreak havoc with pollution, large waves and dumping thousands of tourists into the city for a day trip that create more trash than contribute. The nature of this tourism has caused substantial damage to the residents by escalating the cost of living, making it very difficult to live there. Owners of apartments have turned their units into AirBnBs to make more money instead of providing a place for residents. The rising waters and city flooding have rendered a large number of homes on the ground floor as uninhabitable, further reducing the ability to find a place to live. As a result of the exodus of so many residents, there are a large number of vacant abandoned buildings in need of repairs to make them habitable. Residents that have been ousted from their homes have taken up illegal residency in these abandoned locations as a protest against tourism. Venice is dying a long slow death and the resident population has dropped to well under 55k from its former 164k in the 1970s. By the end of 2019, the city and its people were desperate to find a fix to the dilemma… then Covid-19 hit. There are very little visitors now and the people like what they see. They want an opportunity to change things and get everything back the way it should be. In order to do that, its base must be built back so it is self-sustaining regardless of tourism. This organization will buy and repair buildings and make them residents again. They will be offered at reduced prices to increase the cities population and help the city grow. This is a massive project and will require large amounts of donations. Please spread the word while we assemble this organization and start receiving donations.
