Sport Club do Porto was founded in Portugal in 1904. Its mission is the elevation of sports of all modalities, following the olympic ideal of practising sports above competition and promoting the principles of social and cultural action in its community. SCP's motto is "Mens Sana in Corpore Sano". It comprises more than 30 different sports sections. It was granted the honorific title of Officer of Military Order of Christ by the Portuguese government.
