Sporting Chance: 20 Years' of Providing Emotional and Mental Health Services to Professional Sport.Inspired by his own emotional and mental health issues, Sporting Chance is the brainchild of former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams, MBE. Having played top flight professional football for over 15 years, Tony experienced the unique environment of elite level sport first-hand, the thoughts and feelings that can stem from living and competing in such an environment, and the impact of those thoughts of feelings if not addressed safely.Tony's attempts to cope with his emotions led to a progressive increase in his drinking and in 1996, the now well-documented public acknowledgement of his alcoholism.By accessing discreet, professional talking therapy, Tony was able to confront his problems and better understand his patterns of behaviour and the emotions that lay behind them.A few years down the line, still abstinent from alcohol and developing a new sense of emotional literacy, Tony reflected on the increasing volume of calls he was taking from fellow athletes who, for a variety of different reasons, were struggling with their own emotional and mental health.
