Religious Groups - Hamburg, NY, US
Our parish was founded in 1844. The first church building was on the corner of E. Main and Pine Street and was purchased on June 11, 1845 for the sum of $650. Rev. George Pax raised funds to build a new brick church with a tower and the old wooden church was moved to 239 E. Main Street. This second church was dedicated on the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, June 19, 1863. Bishop Charles H. Colton dedicated our third church building on July 2, 1911. Our parish has included a school since 1863, and Rev. Anthony Veit replaced the old 1874 building with a combination grammar and high school that was dedicated by Rev. Nelson H. Baker on Nov. 13, 1921. In 1953 plans were completed for a $300,000 expansion of the school. This included 12 classrooms on the three floors above the cafeteria. In the summer of 2015, our cafeteria was remodeled.
