SSHOC is one of five cluster projects within the larger European Open Science Cloud initiative. The Social Sciences and Humanities Open Cloud unites 20 partner organisations and a further 27 associates realising the vision articulated by the European Commission in 2016: To offer researchers in the social sciences and humanities seamless access to a full and unified panorama of flexible, scalable, relevant data and the services, tools and training required to make optimal use of that data. The project has a 40-month lifespan (from January 2019 to March 2022) and aims to effect the transition from the current data landscape with its disciplinary silos and separate facilities to an integrated, cloud-based network of leveraged and interconnected data infrastructures. These data infrastructures will be supported by the tools and training which allow scholars and researchers to access, process, analyse, enrich and compare data across the boundaries of individual repositories or institutions. To ensure inclusivity and foster synergies within the project, the partner organisations include all SSH participants in the European Research Infrastructure Consortium and the association of European research libraries (LIBER).Between them, the partners have expertise across the entire data cycle from creation and curation to optimal re-use. They can also address training and advocacy, and are well-placed to address SSH-specific challenges such as:- The distributed character of data infrastructures- Multi-linguality- Data complexity- Secure access to sensitive dataThe tangible outcome from SSHOC is to be a curated collection of tools, services and data repositories which will be showcased on the SSHOC Services page as they become available. Those tools, services and data repositories deemed applicable to the larger EOSC context will be transferred to the SSHOC Marketplace and from there to the EOSC-Hub.
