The STAR*Facility Centre is a technological hub of the University of Foggia, available for research and technology transfer, promoting innovation and pursuing socio-economic development.The new concept that brings together a comprehensive and cutting-edge laboratory equipment, integrated pilot plants and a multidisciplinary research staff, aims at achieving a good integration in the European Research Area, enhancing the "bioeconomy" development.The Centre is now able to extend its services from research to technological innovation and industrial development. Its activities are covering a wide range of possibilities, focusing on the characterization of biomass and biomaterials with the purpose of identifying the best possibility to enhance their productive value towards an economy that finally get rid of fossil fuels.The new industrial approach, adopted by the Facility Centre, is signed by the implementation of the biorefinery concept, that integrates biomass conversion processes and equipment to co-produce chemicals, fuels and power from assorted biomass sources.
