START Foundation was established in 2013 through the inspirational story of Kerryn Harvey, who contracted a life threatening flesh eating bacteria as a result of a seemingly minor cycling accident. Radical surgery was required and a right forequarter amputation (arm and shoulder) was performed. Kerryn repeatedly battled against the odds and survived. Kerryn has been able to manage the challenges of her disability through the support of her family, friends and sporting networks, to once again participate in the sports she is passionate about. START Foundation recognises the key benefits for Amputees participating in sport, including a sense of achievement, improvement of health, social interaction and community engagement. It is through the generous support of our sponsors, donors and volunteers that will enable us to provide grants for a new limb, limb modification or equipment modification, to enable Amputees to participate in sport. START Foundation has been created to assist Amputees to achieve their sporting dreams.MISSIONEmpowering Amputees in Life through SportOBJECTIVESProvide grants for Amputees* to participate in their chosen sport in order to achieve their sporting dreams.
