STEM Fellowship is a youth-led, federal, not-for-profit that strives to engage future STEM leaders and innovators in data science and scientific communication through mentorship and experiential learning programs. With a network of over 250 students on 21 campuses and 41 high schools across Canada and a range of local and national partners, SF has created programs for hundreds of youth over the past four years. We present a new philosophy for student-driven experiential learning in STEM and provide our members with tools that will help them in the current STEM research and education ecosystem. We pioneer programs such as the Big Data Challenge, in which students use open data analysis to address socioeconomic, health or environmental issues in their communities. We also showcase research conducted by high school and undergraduate students in our peer-reviewed STEM Fellowship Journal, sponsored by Canadian Science Publishing. Additionally, we provide hands-on experiential learning opportunities for students from communities traditionally underrepresented in STEM through our STEMpowerment program.
