I established Stern & Co in Hong Kong in 2004 after leaving HSBC (by choice…!) as a Director in its Investment Banking team. My first mandate was to advise Siemens on its bids for rail projects in Greater China: typically a combination of equipment supply, equity investment and debt structuring. Siemens won more than US$1bn of successful contracts through these bids in 2004-06.In infrastructure I've since worked with private sector developers, investors and government bodies on projects in Asia and the Arabian Gulf. Major transactions include the Bangkok Skytrain (pictured above); China's US$15bn West-East Gas Pipeline and its first LNG terminal; some of the Gulf's largest petrochemicals projects; and the Madinah Airport PPP in Saudi Arabia .More recently I work with SMEs and scale-up companies on capital raising, joint ventures and partnerships, as a strategic advisor from "the idea" through negotiating and closing term sheets with investors.I've lived and worked in London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Dubai and now Singapore, and completed transactions in all of the active markets in Asia and the Middle East (as well a few in Europe).Way back when, with PWC - then Coopers & Lybrand - in London I qualified as a chartered accountant through ICAEW, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
