Steve Irwin is a progressive community advocate who is running for Congress to grow and strengthen the middle-class by getting things done. Steve is the grandson of immigrants, the son of a butcher and small business owner, and the father of three who has spent a lifetime advocating for Pittsburgh.Appointed by Governor Ed Rendell to lead the Pennsylvania Securities Commission, Steve fought against Ponzi schemes, scams on seniors and financial fraud. As a young legislative aide, Steve helped build Allegheny County's light rail transit and the MLK Busway, preserved the Allegheny Forest from oil and gas development and helped shepherd the Pennsylvania Wilderness Bill through Congress.As chair of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission's State Advisory Committee, Steve pushed to eliminate extreme, harsh disciplinary tactics in public schools. As the co-chair of the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative, he has been a fierce advocate for the underserved and underrepresented -- and pushed to eliminate avoidable harm in medical care by advancing a national patient and provider safety agency.
