Food Production - Leerdam, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands
Sustainable Economy (Stichting Duurzame Gronden Nederland) is an initiative consisting of an international foundation and national and regional non-profit cooperatives, with the aim of stimulating sustainable food production and sustainable living and bringing them together in a natural environment. For example, we want to jointly improve the quality of soil and solve the housing shortage in a sustainable way. Our local food production is balanced with soil, nature, animals and humans according to the principles of permaculture. Sustainable Economy also stands for sustainable, independent, fun and healthy living in a natural environment. We combine these two at locations of 25 hectares of land.In this way, the non-profit foundation wants to work with regional cooperatives to improve the quality of soil by planting a wide variety of crops. Permaculture is applied at every location in order to increase biodiversity. In addition, we tackle the housing shortage in a sustainable way, by building timber framed houses. Of course creating a healthy environment for citizens, in all age categories, but certainly for citizens in our society who are not eligible for a regular purchase or rental home, such as starters, the elderly and people in need of help.
