Nonprofit Organization Management - Leiden, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands
Stichting (Foundation) Interplast Holland is a charitable organisation that performs reconstructive surgery on children and (young) adults in developing countries. Each year the organisation sends teams of experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre assistants on missions to developing countries. The doctors and assistants, who are assisted by local doctors and nurses, work during their holidays and provide their services free of charge. Their assistance includes:- performing reconstructive operations free of charge for children and adults with cleft lips and palates, disfigurements caused by burns, tumours and other congenital deformities- training local medical personnel in reconstructive surgery, anaesthesia and nursing techniques- helping to set up burns and reconstructive surgery units in hospitals and assist in setting up burn prevention programmesTo secure lasting results Interplast Holland works intensively with local hospitals, doctors, nurses, universities and NGOs. In order not to burden local hospitals unduly, almost all materials required to perform around 100 – 120 operations are brought from the Netherlands or bought locally if available.
