Southern Tier Recovery Activities Without Walls (STRAWW) is a multi-county, peer-driven recovery center in New York State that assists individuals with mental illnesses and other disabilities to find their "spark of life." STRAWW is one of only two multi-county, peer-driven recovery centers in New York State. The STRAWW program covers the three Southern Tier counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua, and is funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health. Cattaraugus County Community Services, Mental Health Associations of Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties, and Directions in Independent Living are partnering with Housing Options Made Easy, Inc. to create a network of opportunities to assist individuals in finding and igniting their "spark of life." Utilizing a person-centered approach, Recovery Guides meet with individuals in the recovery process, providing guidance and assistance to develop a personalized plan for community integration. "Without Walls" means that the participants don't have to come to a specific building for help and support, but instead are met with in the community. Recovery Guides link participants to community activities, as well as creating events based on topics that are of interest to the program participants.
