Philanthropy - Saint John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
The Student Volunteer Bureau (SVB) is a platform that promotes, encourages and educates students at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) about volunteerism. We advise students (both graduate and undergraduate) about ways they can get involved and start volunteering on campus. On the flip side, we offer advice to clubs, societies, and other organizations (who are seeking volunteers) in their recruitment, retention, and management. We can also provide guidance in event planning that incorporates volunteers in any capacity. We are a hub for people who are looking for places to volunteer as well as organizations that are seeking out volunteers. We have postings on our website, share events on our social media and we send out a weekly listserv (typically) every Wednesday at noon. We facilitate the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP) which is a multi-level program open to all Memorial students who want to take responsibility for their own growth and development as thriving individuals. Lastly, our three signature events throughout the year are the Get Involved and Volunteer Expo (GIVE), The VIP Ceremony, and Volunteer Day (done in cooperation with the city of St. John's). Our office is open 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, while classes are in session, and students are always welcome to drop by!
