SUBCULTURED Magazine is a student-run fashion, art, music and youth culture magazine, founded at the University of Surrey, circulated amongst 15,000 students. Our output primarily takes place online (www.subculturedmag.com) however, we also produce a special edition on issuu.com bi-annually. The name 'SUBCULTURED' originates from the word 'Subculture', which is 'a cultural group within a larger culture, often having beliefs or interests at variance with those of the larger culture'. The larger culture in this case is the university, and the cultural group within this (i.e. subculture) are the group of students who have creative interests (e.g. fashion, photography, music, art) outside of their studies, and want to express themselves through such means whilst gaining their degree. Not only does SUBCULTURED allow students to integrate their extracurricular creative passions into their university experience, but it also provides students with valuable experience in many industry sectors, such as design, editorial, business, marketing and more.
