Entertainment - Naperville, Illinois, United States
Welcome to The Summer Place, since 1966, Naperville's Community Theatre! We promise "Big Theatre Production Quality at Little Theatre Ticket Prices, Performed by Friends and Neighbors." We're a 501 C(3) not-for-profit arts organization and rely on volunteers for much of our labor, and sponsors and grants for much of our expenses. We do hire some skills: directors, vocal and music directors, technical directors, stage managers, accompanists, choreographers, light and sound designers and operators, carpenters and musicians. We look for volunteers to fill roles like box office attendants, ushers, and crew. Actors are unpaid. Auditions are open to all and we try to fit all auditioners into our productions. Actors pay a $25 fee to help defray license, script and costume costs.Ticket prices are kept low so that the enjoyment of theatre remains within reach of all our community. We hold several large shows during the summer. In 2018, we are performing Bleacher Bums, Sugar, and Footloose. We perform at the Naperville Central HS Auditorium (when the kids leave for summer, we move in!)We also perform an autumn show, Ghost Stories in the Park in the Dark! held at the Grand Pavilion west of Centennial Beach, a family-friendly outdoor production where community members tell spooky and sometimes funny tales of the macabre. Our outreach program, the Summer Place Singers, visit homes and civic centers around the area, singing old favorites from Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein, and sometimes fun tunes from TV jingles and shows. We are inclusive and invite the whole community, from 8 to 88, who wish to be part of a live theatrical production.
