Higher Education - Chicago, Illinois, United States
Summit United recognized the need of rising high school seniors to have a free support system that they can rely on throughout the college application process. Given that many high schools have only one college counselor and a significant number of college applicants are first-generation, it is necessary to empower students with the knowledge to navigate college admissions, scholarship opportunities, and the financial aid process. We are determined to unite the next generation of leaders by providing rising high school seniors with mentors who are successful college students that will help them navigate the admissions process. We will pair each of our Summit United Scholars with a mentor who has extensive knowledge on crafting personal statements, resumes, and telling a compelling story to an application committee. Aside from one-on-one mentoring, we will also provide our scholars with access to virtual college application-related workshops and grant our scholars access to a database to find scholarships and examples of personal statements. We are committed to increasing our scholars' awareness of the postsecondary options they have, assisting them in applying to their desired institutions, and empowering them with the knowledge to better understand their financial aid situation. Our scholars will not only receive guidance and support from incredibly talented college students but will also become part of a cohort of inspiring future undergraduates that are destined for greatness. Our team is driven to increase the availability of higher education and to ensure that each of our scholars can reach the summit of higher education--one success story at a time.
