Sundance Ski Team's roots trace back to 1969 when Robert Redford purchased the then Timp Haven Ski Resort, ultimately renaming it Sundance Mountain Resort. At which time American ski industry pioneer Junior Bounous became the resort's first Ski School Director. Over the next several decades the team, which shifted in size, structure, and name, achieved great success; going on to turn out several prominent skiers, including Steven Nyman, Erik Fischer, and many future champions. The current era team started in 2007 with only 8 athletes and 2 coaches. Now, ten years later Sundance Ski Team's ever expanding roster boasts over 205 athletes and 43 coaches. Continuing its heritage of cultivating a powerful, fun and engaging atmosphere for athletes to master safe skiing practices, improve techniques, and compete on a regional and national level. While pursuing excellence in ski racing, Sundance Ski Team athletes challenge themselves personally, athletically, and academically to become higher-level humans.
