Libraries - Chicago, Illinois, United States
Sunnys Shared Spines is a free local lending library for Chicago's Humboldt Park and Logan Square communities. Founded in May 2020 by academic Librarian Samantha "Sunny" Sundquist during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sunny's Spines started off as a fun project to help provide books to neighbors during library closures. It has quickly become a passion of Sunny's to provide equitable literacy and diverse books to represent and be of use to all of her neighbors.Created in the style of libraries, patrons have their own private account to request books through an online catalog. They then choose a pickup time and day, and are given the address of Sunny's headquarters. Their sanitized book will be awaiting them in the sanitized BookBox, all they need to do is enter the secret combo code to unlock it. With currently 50 patrons and 500+ books donated, Sunny has been successful at exciting and engaging her neighbors. Sunny's Shared Spines is making the move to focus on amplifying Black and Brown stories voices to reflect the entire communities of Humboldt Park and Logan Square. Sunny is currently fundraising for the purchase of these books and the reflection of her community if the collection at her GoFundMe at bio.fm/sunnys-shared-spines
