Fund-raising - Sunol, California, United States
The Sunol Business Guild's (501c3) mission is "to improve and maintain the Town of Sunol and to support local nonprofit organizations and the community of Sunol" providing regional philanthropy for our unique rural unincorporated area in the East San Francisco Bay Area.Sunol encompasses a geographical area nearly twice the size of San Francisco with a population of about 900 residents. Sunol's historical Train Depot was a stop on the Transcontinental Railroad at the eastern entrance to Niles Canyon connecting the two coasts of the United States in 1869. Sunol also plays a key watershed role in supplying Sierra water to the City of San Francisco. In 1984, while covering the election of "Bosco, the Dog Mayor of Sunol," the British tabloid the Daily Star described Sunol as "the wackiest town in the world." Tom Brokaw of ABC News visited Sunol for a National news feature "interview" of Mayor Bosco who is now memorialized in a statue near our Post Office on Main Street.
