Support and Awareness for Eating Disorders, Inc. (SAFE), a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, has been founded to address these needs. SAFE will organize weekly support groups for those afflicted with eating disorders, as well as separate groups for parents, siblings and friends. A referral directory with information on available resources is being developed and will be available upon request. Materials relating to warning signs and triggers will be distributed to all support group participants and will also be available on our website. SAFE will also organize and conduct presentations for healthcare professionals to ensure that they are aware of the early warning signs ofeating disorders. The goal of this aspect of the program is to enable healthcare professionals to help recognize the symptoms of those who are at risk or may be at the early stage of the disease process. They will also be provided with information regarding how to speak to and work with these people. These presentations will include information on triggers, warning signs and, proper communication techniques when dealing with those afflicted with an eating disorder.
