Nonprofit Organization Management - Waxahachie, Texas, United States
Survivor Trail was established to inspire and motivate the cancer community that together we can survive cancer. This idea came about when the founder of the organization (Laura Compston) courageously won her second battle with cancer. Although she had won, the cancer had taken most of her ability to speak, and it almost took away her hope when she was left without a job. Looking for a way to bring purpose back to her life, she reached out to her son (Jacob Compston), co-founder of Survivor Trail, to come up with a plan. Realizing the joy that was brought upon Laura when she was able to provide online support to cancer patients, she knew she wanted to continue that support in other ways. Knowing there was a need for a local support group in her community, she brought the idea up to her son, who then agreed that he would be her voice through it all. Since April of 2018 they have grown an amazing support group for anyone cancer has affected. Coming together to better understand how we can all survive this terrible disease. In the support group they bring in professionals to speak on how to better survive all things cancer can bring upon one's life. Alongside that, they do enjoyable activities to take away from the stress cancer can create. Their goal for the future of Survivor Trail is to continue to add more support groups in local towns and major cities. Eventually as the organization grows they want to begin to build large complexes around major cancer hospitals, providing little to no cost living, meals, and transportation to and from appointments for the cancer patients and their families. The idea behind this to provide one less thing for the cancer patient to have to worry about. That way they can solely focus on getting better.
