Sussex Squire Wines, is an award-winning premium wine producer with a small intimate cellar door. It is a family owned operation run by Mark and Skye Bollen and are part of the 4th Generation to farm in the Clare Valley with the main focus in producing premium single vineyard red wines from dry grown vineyards.Their passion is to develop and produce wines that have depth and intensity from varieties that showcase some of the best red varieties in the Clare Valley like Shiraz, Malbec, Mataro, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The focus is to produce interesting small batch wines in a style and structure that they love to drink. The wines highlight unique fruit flavour profiles and intensity from dry grown vineyards with minimal intervention in the winery. Mark let's the vineyard do the talking and balances the wine with ageing in new and old French oak to allow the fruit to express the characteristics of the vineyard. The name Sussex Squire commemorates Mark's Grandfather (Rob) Joseph Robert Sussex Hackett (1911 - 1998) who farmed in the Clare Valley for over 60 years breeding Angus Beef Cattle. Rob's Grandfather Walter and his brother Elisha Hackett left from Sussex for Australia in the 1850's to pursue gold, and then to establish a successful agricultural seed company in Adelaide. Their innovative and adventurous spirit typify Mark and Skye's endeavour to create a winery with the focus on Clare Valley red varieties and showcasing Clare Valley's secret as an excellent red wine producing region.
