SW Healthcare is a Federation of all of the 32 GP Surgeries in South Worcestershire serving over 303,000 patients in the region. The organisation was formed in September 2013 in response to the rapidly changing NHS landscape and contractual changes that threaten our viability as individual practices.We are a company limited by shares and our shareholders are our own GP members, but we have the philosophy of a social enterprise given the embedded attitude of our local GPs.SW Healthcare firmly believes that this model of collaborative working is the most desirable for our patients whose own GP surgeries remain independent organisations, but with the practices enjoying the many benefits of being part of a larger organisation. We have been speaking at conferences nationally – other parts of the country have sought to follow our lead.We are proud that General Practice in South Worcestershire consistently performs in the top 10% across a number of indicators nationally. We passionately want to maintain, and if not better, this existing high standard of care for our patients and believe strongly that this will be achieved by putting General Practice at the heart of our health economy.We were very pleased to see that our vision and purpose is closely aligned to the Five Year Forward Plan as set out recently by Simon Stevens of NHSE, and feel that the innovative and cost-efficient models for healthcare that we are already implementing offer a great chance of realising this ambition.
