Swap was a payments startup (compare to Venmo, PayPal) that allowed friends to exchange money and make group purchases via a web, iOS and/or Android application. The company was founded in 2011 by Nima Ahmadi and Shane Hegde, students at Stanford University, and Pejman Nozad, one of the most influential investors in the Silicon Valley. Swap's mission was to socially connect money, lifestyle, and friendships without awkward tension. Focusing initially on the unexplored market of colleges and universities in the United States, the team created a marketplace for friends to exchange faster, more conveniently, and more securely. The user experience emphasized community and trust relationships, in addition to simplicity.
