Renewables & Environment - Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland
EDGE is a research project sponsored by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE, in the framework of the SWEET programme (Call 1-2020). The background for this programme is the Energy Strategy 2050 aiming to increase renewable energy generation and improve energy efficiency in Switzerland. The overall EDGE objective is to fast-track the growth of locally-sourced decentralized renewable energy in Switzerland and to ensure that by 2035 and 2050, when ambitious shares of renewable energy are reached, the Swiss energy system is designed and operated in a technically and economically optimal as well as secure way, and that it is well positioned in the European markets. EDGE stands for Enabling Decentralized renewable Generation in the Swiss cities, midlands, and the Alps. EDGE is jointly hosted by EPFL and the University of Geneva and brings together a large consortium of research, support and implementation partners.
