One out of three people will contract cancer over the course of their lives. The foundation "Fight cancer" strives at realizing a situation in which cancer will no longer be fatal, by raising funds to enable more research into cancer. These funds are directly transferred to "KWF Kankerbestrijding", one of the biggest Dutch anti-cancer foundations. One of the initiatives to raise funds, is the so called "Swim to fight cancer" events. These events are city swims where adults as well as children could raise money and participate in an open water competition. Each Swim to Fight Cancer city has its own foundation. Last year (2016), the total sum of all Swim to Fight Cancer foundations raised over approximately 650,000 EUR.
