Syte Architects was established in 2000 by Oliver Barsoum and Rob Whitlock.The practice aims to apply a consistent philosophical approach to the making of architecture to each individual project. This approach is centred around a careful analysis of each particular site and its context. A site can take a variety of forms ranging from a plot of land to an existing building.Accommodating the clientʼs ambitions for the project and their own unique brief are core considerations alongside site-specific matters. In addition, the large variety of legislative requirements and building codes impose additional elements for consideration. We have a preference for an architecture of simple forms and elegant proportions that allow the qualities of material and light to become evident, and create buildings with a material presence and a rich experience.Our aim is to create an architectural expression that emerges from a careful consideration of each siteʼs characteristics alongside the requirements of each individual client through the application of a consistent philosophical approach rather than the imposition of a house style.Central to this is a working method that allows the approach to be carried through all levels of the project from the strategic to the detailed. We work at different scales simultaneously through models, sketches and working drawings to ensure that the detailed resolution of the design maintains the overall conceptual strategy of eachindividual project.
