The Tahrir Alnisa Foundation (TAF) is a nongovernmental organization dedicated to helping women escape and recover from religiously-motivated violence around the world through advocacy and relief efforts.Tahrir Alnisa means "setting women free." We advocate for legislation and policy changes locally, nationally, and internationally to help women and children targeted by religiously-motivated violence. We also empower women escaping violence by assisting with housing, medical care, trauma recovery, and legal assistance.around the world, religion is wrongly used to control women.Women are uniquely targeted at a higher rate by persecution, and 1 in 3 women worldwide face abuse in the home.Religiously-motivated violence and abuse causes instability whether in a home (domestic violence) or society (religious persecution). Many women are often twice persecuted for their gender and faith as part of a minority religion. Escaping religious persecution is extra challenging for women because they often do not have the opportunity for educational, employment, and legal options necessary for their safety and freedom. They are also frequently the primary caregivers of their children who are also at risk. TAF was founded by religious persecution survivor, Mariam Ibraheem, religious freedom advocate, Naghmeh Abedini Panahi, and government relations professional, Anne Basham. Three women from three different continents came together to address the unique challenges women facing oppression and abuse.
