There are around 63 million hearing-impaired people in India according to the Census, 2011. 55% of those are dependents on some or the other and unable to earn a livelihood for themselves. Lack of communication is a big problem in contributing towards this where the hearing impaired cannot understand others and vice-versa, which hinders their employability to great extent. We're looking to solve this problem via technology. We'll be working on a solution which can translate Spoken/Written English to Indian/American Sign Language in near-real time using Natural Language Processing. Along with this, we'll also be developing a real-time video chat platform using the translation functionality which can be used for education, customer support, better workplace accessibility among other things. We'll be extending the support to other languages as well as other sign languages in the future.
