TUH is one of Ireland's largest acute teaching hospitals, adult, psychiatric and age-related healthcare on one site. The Hospital has 495 adult beds with 3,000 people on staff. The Hospital is a provider of local, regional and national specialties. It is also a national urology centre, the second largest provider of dialysis services in the country, a national centre for Urology and pelvic and acetabular fractures. Robotic surgery started in 2020 and we have recently been designated as a Trauma Unit (one of two within the newly established trauma network). The Hospital also has 67 paediatric beds under the governance of Children's Health Ireland and 52 mental health beds under HSE governance. TUH is one of the two main teaching hospitals of Trinity College Dublin - specialising in the training and professional development of staff in areas such as nursing, health and social care professionals, emergency medicine and surgery, amongst many others. Acute Stroke Tallaght Hospital currently provides tertiary stroke service for southwest Dublin & wider Dublin midlands area where it accepts referrals and provides telemedicine support

Endocrinology- Tallaght Hospital & St James’s have developed a fully integrated approach to care of diabetes and endocrine conditions known collectively as Trinity Endocrinology
Rheumatology - Tallaght Hospital have been looking at ways of improving patient pathways and has implemented a bone and joint server with orthopaedics and HSCP’s which includes interventional ultrasound

Gastroenterology/Advanced Endoscopy- the Hospital has the 3rd busiest unit nationally and was the first to implement capsule endoscopy for small and large bowel. The hospital continues to develop pancreatic cystgastrostomy and related procedures
Microbiology at Tallaght provides the Irish diptheria reference lab and our microbiologist is the ECDC diptheria lead for Ireland. We also provide a pseudomonal antibodies reference lab service for Ireland
Chemical Pathology the Hospital Lab provides a clinical trace element service which accepts samples from around the country. We are the sole trace element centre within DMHG and indeed the Dublin hospitals
