Tamar Village started in 2010 when 2 ladies, Shih Shu-Hui and Lois Loh, visited Tamar Centre in Pattaya Thailand and walked the Red Light District in Singapore, for a year. They are our founders. In 2012, a Skill Centre was established to journey with ladies who have made a decision to not be influenced by or who have chosen to leave the prostitution trade of the Red Light District. In the early years, we tried making jewellery and baking products. Eventually in 2014, as a team, we decided to focus on sewing products as a way to help our ladies be able to iron out life habits and to form good character values. This took place as we begin to reinforce the fact that the ladies are not here for employability but to embark on a journey of holistic change in attitudes, habits and character. The skill centre for sewing became a tool for character development and habits transformation, to prepare them for future work and to learn how to handle relationships well.In 2014, we started a Children and Youth Focus (ACORN) to journey with the children and youth. As our hearts grew towards restoring family units, we started a Men Focus in 2016.To find out more, visit us at www.tamarvillage.org
