Photography - Pāhoa, Hawaii, United States
Aloha. I am Harry Durgin. I love to photograph the extraordinary and unique beauty of our home, the Big Island of Hawaii. My wife Mouse and I have a studio-workshop and gallery at our little home on the windward coast. This is where we do all our processing and printing, just a few steps away from our garden and within earshot of the ocean. We print using archival inks and materials, then use a special coating to protect the prints from UV rays, bumps and spills. We mount them to a fine plywood before framing. For our frames, we start with planks of Sapele, a tropical hardwood that is a lot like mahogany, but with even more beautiful grain and a rich hue. We mill the lumber, build the frames, shellac them, and end with a hand-rubbed wax finish. There's aloha in every print!
