Developing the next generation of wearable in-home sleep quality devices. We hope to bring affordable, medical grade, sleep assessment devices to the consumer. Together we can improve peoples sleep hygiene, point to possible diagnosis, and get the help we need to improve our sleep health.Executive Summary: Restless sleep is a major societal problem affecting productivity, health and quality of life for adults and learning ability of children. Leg movements characterizing restless sleep uniquely mark sleep quality and several medical conditions. They divide into two classes, General Leg Movements during Sleep (GLMS) and Periodic Leg Movements of Sleep (PLMS). GLMS patterns reveal texture and severity for sleep-behavioral intervention; PLMS reveal possible medical conditions such as restless legs syndrome (RLS), cardiac morbidity and iron deficiency. People are often not aware of the PLMS and there is currently no easily usable at-home way to measure PLMS or GLMS. This is done mostly in sleep labs. Tanzen Medical will develop and commercialize a FDA 510k cleared, direct to consumer (OTC), novel system called RestEaZe™, that can identify GLMS movements (leg movements) and PLMS movements (foot flexions) in a home setting. It combines proprietary ankle band capacitive sensor arrays and inertial sensors developed at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), with proprietary PLMS analytics developed at The Johns Hopkins University (JHU). RestEaZe™ is an enabling technology for identifying sleep status, evaluating treatments, e.g. oral iron, and identifying medical conditions. The commercialization of RestEaze will focus on the adult and children consumer markets (primary markets) and the professional clinical and research markets (secondary markets).
