Tarruru is passionate about protecting intangible cultural heritage in Indigenous communities of Australia. We recognise that Indigenous cultural values and histories are endangered and in need of urgent safeguarding. Tarruru partners with Indigenous communities to transform their unique cultural resources into new digital and creative platforms, to document and record culture and to produce new forms of cultural expression. Indigenous landscapes are embedded with sites and places associated with law, songs, stories, and histories. Tarruru specialises in the creation of maps which present rich, multilayers content in a range of media, from new and old photography to audio, film and paintings. Our maps utilise new mapping technologies through the online platforms of Google Earth in order for communities to engage their younger generations and maintain important knowledge and importantly maintain control over precious cultural information.
