Museums & Institutions - Oslo, Oslo, Norway
TBS Gallery is a permanent collection of artworks by Tore Bjørn Skjølsvik. Opened in the spring of 2019, the gallery presents a changing programme of exhibitions on various aspects of painting and sculpture. As well as displaying Skjølsvik's work, TBS Gallery aims to feature hidden gems by other lesser-known artists like Skjølsvik. Our goal is to be not just a gallery but a multicultural culture hub that makes the impossible possible.Tore Bjørn Skjølsvik's works can be found in the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design (Nasjonalmuseet) in Oslo, Trondheim Kunstmuseum and the Norwegian embassy in Rome. He has had many solo exhibitions, has participated in various group exhibitions, and has been awarded numerous scholarships and art prizes.Skjølsvik trained at the Norwegian Academy of Crafts and Applied Art (1958/59), the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London (1960/61) and the Norwegian Academy of Fine Art (1963–67). In 1986/87 he served as a member of the exhibition's National Jury.Skjølsvik works in the classical tradition, taking inspiration from European artists such as Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet and Auguste Rodin. Physicality, intensity and realism are central qualities of his art.
