Team zero waste is a group of students from multidisciplinary backgrounds studying in IIT Bombay aimed towards minimizing the waste generation in the campus and to come up with solid waste management (SWM) solutions. The team is working on aspects such as policy for plastics segregation in the hostel, handling menstrual waste in the hostel, designing of bins for effective segregation, recycling of paper cups, pens made from broken bamboo, using cattle as composters, lemon waste, plastic shredder, and composting to reduce the solid waste produced in the campus. The waste reduction will ultimately be minimizing the amount of Solid Waste reaching the landfill solving the area requirement for landfilling as well as other problems like leachate, toxic gases, etc. We hope that our small step towards solid waste management will help in reaching sustainable development in the future.
