Technology Playgroup Details
TPG was started by a couple of guys who were doing visual and physical special effects production work. During these productions, they faced challenges on many subjects like motion control, morphing in motion, integration of 3Danimation with live action, camera tracking and making sense of data for post production - always the question was "how do we get from here to there?" - files that were incompatible, devices that wouldn't connect together, post processes that wouldn't handle motion files, and a million daily frustrations (most of which were technically minor -but impossible to live without). In those days, our only solution was to do it yourself, so we did - software, hardware, effects, cameras, lens, you name it, we had to do it. The solutions we came up with, were sometimes a production method, sometimes a technique or script, and sometimes an electronic gadget, but most times a combination of all of these things. We had to create the glue necessary to bring the various elements together and make things work, and get the shot done. At some point, we realized that this glue technology could be useful to a number of people, and so wherever possible, we've packaged it and made it available. We still do high-end effects productions / consultancy, and what we have is never what the director wants, which keeps us tackling new problems and finding solutions on a daily basis.
