Komodo OpenLab is the creator of the Tecla, an assistive device that changes the lives of people with physical disabilities who are unable to use touchscreens. These include people with mobility impairments from a stroke, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, MS, ALS and many other conditions. Tecla allows its users to interact with their smartphones and tablets via adaptive controls they already use such as wheelchair joysticks, buttons, sip-and-puff controllers or head arrays. With Tecla, users take full advantage of the independence and freedom offered by their mobile device. They can communicate via phone, email, text and social media, access the Internet, and control their smart home devices. Komodo OpenLab founders, Jorge Silva and Mauricio Meza, are biomedical engineers who have worked with people with disabilities for over a decade. Jorge's experience includes being a researcher and developer at major hospitals, while Mauricio worked as an assistive technology consultant at Canada's largest rehabilitation hospital, Toronto Rehab. He is now applying both his MBA and biomedical backgrounds to change the daily lives of those living with disabilities.
