In our vocabulary, there are certain words that can have multiple definitions and by using them in different contexts they can have different meanings. "Weight" is one of those words.Credibility, value, complexion, importance, burden, load, expectations…These are just a few of the definitions associated with this word."Weight of things" can refer to weight of anything; from the difference between the weight of a walnut on earth versus another planet to the weight of liberalism in progressive societies.Everything is defined with relativity in our world. If we look back, every single definition we know has been relative to something else we have comprehended. We have indeed weighed the value and importance of things on our personal and virtual scales. Our differences lie not in the differences of things and worlds surrounding us, but in the weight of these things. What goes on around us or the situations we are in might not always be voluntarily, but the value and the weight we give them is in our hands.Aside from our personal lives, the weight of things has changed in today's world. In fact, the weight of different subjects and values change among generations and societies. It is as if today's world does not feel the weight of many things anymore. The weight of things changes through time. The "Weight of Things" for this year's TEDx event, can be the story of a personal experience, or a global experience. Of weightlessness. Of numbness. Of hearing horrific news every day. Of how war and death and thousands of other devastating events don't have any "weight" for us. It can be the personal story of someone who, by letting go of the weight of some things, has been able to reach their ideal place. It can be giving weight and significance to things that are insignificant to other people. Or it can be simply about the different values. The different weights people give to various situations or aspects in their lives.
